A new reading space is born at the Alberto Hurtado University

With the support of Mar Adentro and Fundación Cosmos, the third floor of the UAH Library was inaugurated, open to the entire university community. It’s a 450 m2 sector, distributed in common spaces, four study rooms and offices.

At the beginning of June, the inauguration of the new third floor of the UAH Library took place. One of the characteristics of this modern space, which has study rooms, offices and a consultation room, is that it seeks to reflect the purpose of both foundations, around the importance of caring for nature and remembering that we are an integral part of natural and built socio-ecosystems .

In this regard, the architect Felipe Correa, from Fundación Cosmos, pointed out that one of the objectives of the construction was to “bring the experience of nature and its connectivity to the interior, with landscaping that gives kindness and hospitality to this place of knowledge and wisdom”. Likewise, it revealed the role of continuity around the work of the philanthropist Alberto Hurtado Fuenzalida as part of a common dialogue between both foundations.

At the beginning of this university, the space was destined for Business Engineering, Baccalaureate and Sociology careers, recalled the president of the UAH, Eduardo Silva, who at the same time recognized the contribution and generosity of the Cosmos and Mar Adentro foundations, “Thanks to which it was possible to develop this project.”

Meanwhile, Guadalupe Ovalle, director of the UAH Library, stressed the fact of having new and modern reading rooms and shared spaces: “We are very happy because generally our Library grows in collections, in books, in digital resources, but we needed more space for our users,” he said.

Also present at the opening ceremony was our executive president Madeleine Hurtado, and the executive president of Fundación Cosmos, Pamela Hurtado; and from the UAH, the academic vice-president, Eduardo Abarzúa; the vice-president for Research and Postgraduate Studies, Paula Barros; the vice-president for Integration, Sebastián Kaufmann; the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, Felipe Bravo; in addition to deans, and faculty directors.

At the end of the activity, the UAH chaplain Pablo Walker blessed the new premises and valued the role that reading plays in academic environments. Then, representatives of Cosmos and Mar Adentro cut the tricolor ribbon in the company of president Eduardo Silva.

This new, modern and cozy space was visited after the inauguration by the Fundación Mar Adentro team. Its offices are open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and it is already being used to cultivate knowledge, generate spaces for dialogue and study by the university community.
