Launch of book “Notebooks for thinking about nature”

A publication that invites readers to learn and reflect on climate change through art, science and education.

Tuesday, November 9 will be the digital launch of “Notebooks for thinking about nature”, through the FMA website and our social media channels. The book will be available for download from then on, free of charge.

The publication comprises three books and is the result of a collaboration between Fundación Mar Adentro (FMA) and Saposcat publishing house, which seeks to communicate to a wide audience themes related to climate change. “Notebooks for thinking about nature” incorporates artistic language and provides knowledge on biodiversity and food sovereignty, which are both vital issues in the face of climate change.

Conceived by Maya Errázuriz, the Foundation’s Head of Art and Publications, and Marcela Fuentealba, Editor at Saposcat, each of the three books include images from one artist: “Terrestrial energy” (by Christian Yovane), “Change and equilibrium” (Tomás Barrera) and “Conserve and restore” (Natalia Babarovic).

Along with this, each book – which will soon be out in print – contains educational supplements created by our Education Area and various exercises that address the book’s themes using creativity, curiosity and community.

For Maya Errázuriz, “the three books open different questions related to climate change and the dynamics that occur in nature. It is a publication that seeks to promote a more critical and conscious viewpoint, but that leaves the space open to stimulate the reader’s curiosity, motivating them to continue learning and reflecting.”

Marcela Fuentealba, the book’s co-editor, adds that “we wanted a book that would help young people understand that the Earth’s processes are long and have many components, which in the end will always give a little bit of hope.” Regarding the artists chosen for the publication – Chrstian Yovane, Tomás Barrera and Natalia Babarovic – she points out that “we chose them for their graphic design strength, their interest in the topic, their ability to be dynamic and possess different resources and points of view; which allowed us to make three books which are both quite different and yet speak to each other.”
