Public release of the documentary «The irrational optimist»
This Tuesday, December 21, at 12:00 hours, we will release to the public through Fundación Mar Adentro’s networks "The irrational optimist", an audiovisual work on the Dutch visual artist and physicist Theo Jansen.

As a gift for the end of the year, we will release on our website The Irrational Optimist, an audiovisual work on the Dutch visual artist and physicist Theo Jansen. Made during his time in Chile while inaugurating the exhibition Algoritmos del viento at the National Center of Contemporary Art in Cerrillos, this documentary proposes to review his life and work, creative processes and concerns, through a journey from the Andean mountain range to the Pacific Coast.
Directed by filmmaker Víctor Leyton and carried along with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, it is both the record of his passage through Chile to mount and inaugurate the exhibition Algoritmos del viento, and an exploration of a life dedicated to the free and rigorous union of art and science.
In an increasingly overwhelming world, the Dutch artist Theo Jansen proposes to return to nature, to observe and learn from it. Made during his time in Chile to inaugurate the exhibition Algoritmos del viento -visited by more than 40 thousand people-, this documentary proposes to review his life and work, creative processes and concerns, through a journey from the Andean mountain range to the Pacific Coast. Evolution, frustration and imagination have driven this irrational optimist to coexist for the last 27 years with his world-famous kinetic sculptures, species of autonomous organisms that follow evolutionary stages and that, according to Jansen himself, have surpassed their Creator.
