We’ve Recently Become A Part of Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA)

This international network that today expands to Latin America, began in 2013 in Europe and Asia with 35 organizations aims at bringing together various partners to exchange knowledge, skills and experiences to contribute to environmental sustainability through creative practices.

Fundación Mar Adentro was invited in 2020 to become a part of the Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA), in which all its partners share the mission of functioning as a free support network, to exchange knowledge, skills, experiences and creative resources related to environmental themes. The alliance allows international and multidisciplinary exchange, through laboratories, meetings, workshops, seminars and residences on topics related to nature stewardship and environmental sustainability.

This alliance started as an international network of 35 arts organizations in Europe and Asia, launched in 2013 with a meeting at the Jan Van Eyck Academy in the Netherlands. Since its inception it has been funded by the European Commission, and in its first two years the alliance has carried out environmental art projects in Europe (coordinated by Trans Artists, Amsterdam). Later, between 2015 and 2017, GALA developed projects, seminars and exchanges in Asia (coordinated by Bamboo Curtain Studio, Taipei and BACC Bangkok). Currently, it is including various associations throughout Latin America, as 2019 began with new alliances in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Panama and Bolivia.

In this way, the Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA) is made up of partner organizations from Asia, Latin America and Europe, which have in common a deep commitment to culture and the environment and in these times of world crisis, want to highlight the importance of solidarity, international knowledge exchange and collaboration, to build new systems according to the needs of people and the planet; recognizing those problematic legacies that have fueled our world in crisis, due to the stories of colonial, patriarchal and geopolitical powers.
