FMA Fund opens call to finance research, science and transdisciplinary projects

From June 1st to 26th, 2023, applications will be received to participate in Fundación Mar Adentro's grant, whose objective is to finance innovative projects that link multiple disciplines focused on the care of nature.

The FMA fund (Fundación Mar Adentro) is a financing initiative that seeks to promote forms of conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity in the territories of Chile. It is aimed at projects that link science with other disciplines, in research initiatives, climate change adaptation and mitigation actions, and education to generate concrete advances in relation to the care of nature.

The selected projects will receive a maximum amount of up to $5,000,000 Chilean pesos and must be implemented between the months of September 2023 and May 2024. Also, only projects that have previous experience in the proposed topics and a track record in the territory and/or local communities will be chosen.

Among the themes that this fund seeks to promote for 2023-2024, are the conservation of native flora, fungi and fauna, as well as coastal ecosystems; conservation and socio-ecological restoration at the landscape scale; Water management; research on climate refuges and nature-based solutions; in addition to strategies and/or actions for the prevention and control of forest fires, among others.

For its part, Fundación Mar Adentro will carry out accompaniment work in the different stages of the projects. It should be noted that the selected proposals may apply for up to 3 consecutive years for the development of different stages of their project and with the aim of giving it sustainability and continuity in the long term.

Who can apply?

Foundations, NGO, institutions, organizations, groups, as well as natural persons may apply (although they are encouraged to apply on behalf of a team, or together with an organization).

*Preferred projects should involve: transdisciplinary practices (arts/humanities/sciences); biocultural practices; citizen science processes; and projects that encourage the incorporation of ancestral practices and artistic practices.

This fund does NOT support projects with the following characteristics:

  • Communication / political campaigns
  • Sponsorship of events such as festivals, symposiums or congresses
  • International projects with no direct impact on Chile

Financing study scholarships: entry fees, tuition, or living expenses (pre and/or postgraduate)

Projects with other partners and/or collaborators linked to the areas of mining, paper/wood industry, agricultural exploitation, or other extractivist actions

Edition and printing of publications

Projects in the ideation stage, without a validation that allows them to develop.
