As in 2011, in 2012 we supported the second version of this cultural initiative, unique in Chile and in Latin America, created by Chantal Signorio, which in its first version was attended by 8 thousand people. Once again the festival exceeded expectations: nearly 15 thousand people attended it, and were able to take part in a top-level event that combines thought, creativity, entertainment and dialogue.

For three days (9, 10 and 11 November), we toured various locations in Valparaíso in which 26 activities and conferences took place with national and international lecturers from various fields of knowledge: literature, history, politics, music, poetry, science, theater and cinema.

The festival was inaugurated in the Atrium of the Church La Matriz by the Argentine writer, Alberto Manguel. Later on, a dramatized reading of the literary work “Tierra del Fuego” took place in the Parque Cultural Valparaíso.

Centro Cultural, Valparaíso

Some of the writers who participated in the encounter were Alberto Manguel from Argentina and Almudena Grandes from Spain, as well as the prominent Mapuche poet, Elicura Chihuailaf. The orchestra conductor, Eduardo Browne, took us on a trip through the history of English pop music, while Salvatore Settis, Italian art historian and archeologist, gave a lecture on the value of the cultural heritage. In the field of science, the American-Italian neuroscientist, Marco Iacoboni, talked brilliantly about mirror neurons and the empathic brain.

We also enjoyed the concert of the Brazilian bossa nova singer, Fabiana Cozza, and the work “Aïe” of the theatre circus company, Crida Company.

Guests of Fundación Mar Adentro

Our foundation invited professionals who daily work for education. Thus, we had as guests representatives of Museo Artequín, Fundación Mustakis, authorities and teachers of the Alberto Hurtado University, the teachers who had won the Colorearte 2012 competition, the principal of the Epson School of Ensenada and teachers of Fundación Origen.

Two of the activities we organized for our guests were lunch with the Spanish philosopher, Vicente Serrano, and dinner with the Chilean storyteller, Carlos Genovese. In these activities we were able to enjoy a personal encounter with both speakers and learn more about their works and thought.
